Credit: let's do a recap
Step 1: Position the First Chopstick (The Base)
Start by placing the first chopstick between:
- The base of your thumb
- The side of your ring finger
This chopstick should stay completely still—think of it as your foundation.

x
Step 2: Hold the Second Chopstick Like a Pencil
Take the second chopstick and hold it like you would a pen or pencil:
- Rest it on your middle finger
- Use your thumb and index finger to control it
This is the only chopstick that moves.

X
Step 3: Practice the Movement
Now comes the key part:
- Keep the bottom chopstick still
- Move the top chopstick up and down
Try picking up:
- Larger foods (like sushi or chicken) first
- Then move on to smaller items (like peanuts or beans)
X
Step 4: Pick Up Food Properly
- Position the chopsticks around the food
- Gently squeeze to grip it
- Lift steadily—don’t rush
Tip: Avoid stabbing food or gripping too hard—it’s all about control, not force.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Even beginners can improve faster by avoiding these:
- Crossing your chopsticks
- Holding both sticks stiffly
- Moving both chopsticks at once
- Gripping too tightly
Bonus: Learning Made Easier
If you're still finding it difficult, don’t worry—there are easier ways to learn:
- Training chopsticks (great for beginners & kids)
- Practising with larger food items
- Slowing down your hand movements
